Our Areas of Practice

At the Law Office of Robert L. Jones, we provide low-cost, personalized, and professional divorce and other family law services to our clients. We offer legal services in the area of uncontested divorce.  In an uncontested divorce, the parties have agreed in advance how to divide marital property, arrange for the custody of minor children, and set child and spousal support. Uncontested divorce is the way most people divorce, due to its simplicity and low cost. Another advantage is that, by working out the details of your divorce prior to beginning legal proceedings, you can keep many personal details of your marriage and divorce out of the public records, better protecting your privacy and helping to avoid identity theft.

  • We offer low, flat fees for our uncontested divorce services. A no-contest divorce with no minor children costs just $365, and an uncontested divorce with minor children costs between $725 and $925 (depending on the county where the divorce will be filed).  Our flat fees do not include filing fees, publication fees, etc.  Our consistently high quality and fast service means you get the best value for an uncontested divorce in Cobb County or any of the 33 other counties in which we practice in Georgia.

  • Contested divorces - While our primary focus is to provide clients with services in uncontested divorce, in the event you are unable to reach an uncontested resolution in Cobb County, we may be able represent you in a contested divorce.  Typically, our contested case retainers are $2,500 and with payment of the retainer you will receive at least ten hours of our services.

Please note: At this time, we handle contested divorce cases only in Cobb County.

  • Divorce consulting and advising - This service primarily serves clients who need help reviewing a divorce settlement agreement drafted by their spouse or spouse's attorney. It may also be appropriate for those just beginning to consider a divorce, those considering contesting a portion of their divorce, and those considering a divorce settlement offer. We charge $200 for the first consultation hour and $250 for each additional hour. If you decide to file for a divorce through our firm within 30 days of your consultation, the $200 fee will be applied to the cost of your divorce so that the consultation does not result in any additional cost to you.

  • Wills, Trusts, Powers of Attorney and other Advance Dircectives - These services are important to everyone, all the time.  But, during the unsettling times of divorce, it is essential that you have advance, legal directives in place so that your children are taken care of, your property disposed of, your medical treatment and other arrangements are handled just as you wish, not how your estranged spouse would prefer.  Often the most carefully thought-out advace directives and estate plans are destroyed or invalidated by a divorce.  We can quickly prepare all of these documents as additional services so that you and your heirs are protected as your prefer during and after the divorce.  Our fees vary with your situation and sometimes it is necessary to charge an hourly rate.  But, we try to quote fixed fees in advance so that you know that you are getting the services that you need for a fee that you can afford without any surprise.  For example, a simple Last Will and Testament with a Power of Attorney for Health Care can be quickly prepared by us for a flat fee of $250.00.

  • Deeds - Frequently, the title to real estate must or should be altered as part of divorce or other changes in family status.   The most frequently used document for changing title to real estate as part of a divorce is a Quitclaim Deed or Limited Warranty Deed.  Typically, we prepare and record these documents for you for a flat fee of $100.00.

  • Qualified Domestic Relations Order ("QDRO") - Many times in adivorce it is necessary to transfer or divide a retirement account. Frequently, this must be done in a manner that does not result in extraordinarily high income taxes to either party.  Typically, this is done with a QDRO.  Our typical fee for preparing and obtaining approval for a QDRO is $340.00.  If your situation is very complex however, we may refer you to a QDRO specialist with the refined knowledge and expertise to help with even the most complex division of retirement assets.
